Anthony Lamb

Anthony Lamb is a minimalist landscape photographer who has exhibited in Germany, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. Recent exhibitions include Taurus Photo Gallerie in Hamburg, Germany, ECAD Gallery in London, X Gallery and DIFC in Dubai, and Artimage in Sao Paulo and Rio De Janeiro. Anthony remains represented by 11 galleries including Nava Contemporary in New York, The Arabian Gallery in Dubai, and Pure Photo in Los Angeles. He has won multiple first and second place achievements at Tokyo International Photo Awards and PX3 Prix De La Photographie Paris.

The photographs in Anthony Lamb’s portfolio depict remote, exotic scenery of deserts, cliffsides, untamed shore lines, and islands with a process of in-camera editing and exact timing. Anthony often shoots during overcast or stormy conditions which leaves a smooth, misty atmosphere in his compositions. He also employs long exposure techniques as well as using his Fujifilm GFX’s in-camera color balance settings as well as adjustments to exposure, contrast, and luminance. Anthony’s photography remains mostly devoid of detailed naturalistic texture as he favors a smooth blending of surfaces, especially of earth, sand, water, and sky. His techniques create a minimalist, unified surface often reflecting neutral and pastel tones throughout the configuration.

With a persistence in capturing negative space as well as depicting land and bodies of water completely or largely untamed by humans, Anthony travels extensively to search for his opus, as the experience of the adventure becomes ingrained within the works. Upon finding the perfect locations for his photography during prime misty conditions, Anthony’s finished pieces reflect poetry on the isolation and intimidation of seemingly endless open landscapes. He stumbles upon remote scenery and locations, either planned or by improvisation, and reveals the mystery of uncharted territory on land, sea, and barren shore. On occasion, he will come across exotic beasts such as an Arabian oryx or camel which enhances his landscapes by offering a subtle blend of contrast and focal point as they appear to be almost swallowed by the vast nature of the environment.

Minimum Stability (pictured above) remains one of Anthony’s most vivid photographs as the piece reflects intense, detailed textures of the raw cliffside followed by the sfumato misty fog of the shore line and blended sky. A remote building hangs by the cliff which resembles a church, farmhouse, ranch, or civic center, revealing the fragility of human-created structures against the backdrop of the vast expanse of nature.

Anthony Lamb can be described as a subtle experimental photographer who expresses new experiences by portraying and accentuating desolate locations through his timing and in-camera editing techniques. He looms over his subjects and commands their structure of the planes like a sculptor with fine marble leaving a polished surface. Through discovery and a sense of adventurism, we embark upon a great journey through the great unknowns of planet earth, the feral, unguided, and uncontaminated face of mother nature. With a passion for landscapes and process, Anthony lamb imbues poetry into a seamless, unified surface of pale perfection.
