Francesca Borgo

Francesca Borgo is a contemporary painter inspired by East Asian art who has exhibited about a dozen times to date at The Other Art Fair in New York City, London, and Los Angeles. She has also been featured in collections on Saatchi Art. Other art fairs Francesca has participated in include duel showings at Carrousel du Louvre in Paris and the Innsbruck 22nd International Art Fair in Austria. Recently, Francesca has also exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

These poetic paintings depict abstract compositions as if the viewer were flying high in the sky above the clouds looking down on mountain landscapes. Francesca creates weaves and bubbled forms expressing an intimate and romantic relationship and expression of nature. With delicate color and transitions, she imposes a pale surface accentuated with cloud-like forms with dreamy qualities amid carefully placed mountains as if she sculpted the subjects herself.

Reminiscent of the allegorically romantic paintings of late 18th, early 19th century artist Caspar David Friedrich, Francesca’s paintings follow in the tradition of Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog. Much like Friedrich’s signature painting, Francesca captures the essence of individualism with the luxury of interacting with nature in an intimate and serene angle, high above the clouds overlooking mountainous landscapes and breathing in the crisp, cool high altitude air. Francesca’s paintings evoke feelings of meditative induced tranquility and oneness with our surroundings.

By the Crash of a Wave (pictured above) depicts abstract forms which could resemble the sea during stormy weather or stylized mountains and clouds. Judging by the title, the painting indicates the first rather than the latter. The cloudy negative space embraces the waves of the ocean which resemble intricate bubbles and weaved forms as if Francesca knitted and sculpted the landscape before us. A magical painting which induces emotion and relationships with space, form, and nature.

Francesca Borgo can be described as an intricate artist who explores new ways of relating the viewer to nature. She takes hold of the driver’s seat and stears the viewer towards unfamiliar scenes and allegorical, romantic, and stylized representations of the natural world. Much like a bird’s eye view, the viewer may appreciate the magnificence of what the power of illusory qualities can achieve through Francesca’s vision of a serene world. With opulence and grand gestures, Francesca Borgo reinterprets open space and blurs the line between illusion and abstraction.
